Where's that global warming when we need it?

I was at a conference in New York City in February 1994. Took the train home in a snow storm, was barely able to drive to home to Durham. But I did make it, and I was able to say good night to Vaiva's father about midnight, whose "bedroom" was at that time the first floor den.

When I came down the next morning, I discovered he had died in his sleep--not surprising, he had been ailing for some time, and was 92. But the storm had continued through the night, school was canceled. We had to explain to the kids that Senelis had died, and they went it to see him. An impromptu wake in the home, I guess. The funeral home folks weren't able to come for the body until afternoon. Bad weather then kept attendance at both his wake and his funeral to a minimum. We froze the leftovers from the post-funeral lunch and ate them until well into the summer.

Looks like we have a similar situation shaping up for Vaiva.

Snow is forecast for tomorrow, perhaps for Saturday as well. We fully understand that many people who would very much like to attend Vaiva's ceremonies won't be able to attend under the circumstances, and that's no problem at all. The blog is here to give everyone a chance to share their remembrances where ever they may be.
