You may not remember me, but I was one of Vaiva's "pamerges" at your wedding. She and I grew up together in New Haven, and spent many hours runnning around her and her aunt's homes as kids. Our parents used to get together quite often, and as it was boring for us youngsters to hear our moms and dads speak about Lithuania and the books they'd been reading, well, we'd sneak off and play hide and seek, or with trolls, or, my not so favorite, "library". Vaiva would play the librarian, and I would take on the role of the late book returner, and was punished for it!
I just found out this evening of Vaiva's recurrent illness and of her passing. No words can ever describe how it feels - certainly, and above all others, you know this.
Though I wasn't able to know her so much as an adult since our paths lead us far from each other geographically, she will always remain a part of me, a part of everything she touched in her short life, and for that I know we are all grateful.
My deepest and most sincere sympathy goes out to you and your children. Vaiva's vibrancy, dedication and love will never leave any of you. May her legacy strengthen all of you in this time of sorrow.
I am so sorry to have heard this news.
With sympathy,
