Departure

Leaving the house in Rieše was hard. Going through the house, selecting things of Vaiva’s to bring back to Durham, walking through these rooms that were so indelibly hers. Mostly I took books amd music. The piano sheet music. Four charming hamd-made cups with feet that we bought together on my second trip to Lithuania. I’ll have to figure out when that was.

Somehow, I found it hard to pack, I kept fearing I was overlooking something. Finally I stopped at 12:30 am, set the alarm for 3:30 am. Don’t know how much sleep I really got, but we were up and ready for the cab at 4 am. No traffic at that time of day, of course, and the weather was cooperative.

We left Vilnius in the pitch dark, and arrived in the pitch dark in Warsaw. Six hour layover—I’m going to have to do a better job of planning the tickets in the future.
