Vaiva with Adamkus

Vaiva was well acquainted with Valdas Adamkus long before he became President and asked her to join his government. This photo is of their meeting in 1992, during the second year of the A.p.p.l.e. summer courses. Adamkus was one of Vaiva's most important mentors, going back to perhaps 1980 or so, when she heard him speak in the U.S. for Lithuanian independence and freedom.
